Have you ever gone back to a place where you grew up, childhood home, a park, a town or even a room, and memories come rushing back about what happened there?
Absolutely! I have been surprised by the experience, at times. There's often a disconnect between memory and 'reality'...the smell of a place (the JFK Library in Vallejo, where I grew up) has brought back a RUSH of forgotten memories and associations. Thanks for this piece today. I loved thinking of you and I growing up in the 70s...just a short drive away from one another.
You’re welcome! Yes—memory can be a trickster, which is be part of what can be great about going in through place—it can be a bit of a cross reference—although our previous experience will also shape the memory anyway, making it different from someone else’s! This is exactly why we need every voice. 💛
