In my Mormon upbringing there were many shoulds that morphed with my mother’s Silent-Generation-influenced ideas of what should be.
I should not smoke.
I should not drink,
I should not “date” until I am 16
I should always wear a slip.
I should not wear dangle earrings.
I should work as a secretary. (But I don’t know how to type.)
I should wear skirts that fall below the knee.
I should not stay out past midnight.
I should not dye my hair.
I should get married.
I should write a poem about shoulds.
