I'm Reading Four Books at Once (At Least)
I’m usually reading a few books at once. One for nighttime, one for breakfast, one for dipping into here and there, etc. I won’t give reviews yet, since I’m still reading them all.
Right now, the novel I’m reading is Avalon, by Nell Zink. It’s unusual, but normal people seem to like it too since it’s a New York Times bestseller.
The short story book I read at bedtime and in the middle of the night is the worst choice possible since it is the most terrifying book I’ve ever read. But I love it and I can’t stop reading it. No nightmares so far. The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by Mariana Enriquez, translated from the Spanish by Megan McDowell. (I don’t smoke in bed while I read it.)
I bought The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin at Skylight Books in LA and enjoy dipping into it here and there for bits of inspiration.
And Remedy, I’m not sure where I found it but it’s in the pink section of my cookbook shelves (I collect cookbooks, but that is another post) and it’s been fun reading.
Does anyone else read different kind of books all at once?
