Full Moon Screening (and Howling Contest!)
Coming Soon to the Smith Rafael Film Center: Our film “Werewolf Serenade” at 9pm, Friday, June 21
Join us on the next full moon, Friday, June 21 at 9pm for a special screening of our new film Werewolf Serenade at the Smith Rafael Film Center.
During every screening so far, the audience spontaneously burst into howls as the film began, so on this night, during the full moon, there will be a howling contest (with prizes), judged by myself and Writer-Director Daedalus Howell.
While we had our cast and crew screening at The Mystic in Petaluma—a theater where both Daedalus and I both saw movies as a kid—The Rafael in downtown San Rafael was one of the theaters where my parents went to movies with their friends when they were kids.
So many stories have unfolded in this historic theater, onscreen and off. It’s a gorgeous vintage theater that has been thoughtfully refurbished—and they even sell wine at the concession stand these days! I hope you can join us there under the full moon. Get your tickets at the Smith Rafael Film Center website.
Synopsis
Filmed in Petaluma, California, the film follows Peter MacTire (Howell), a burned-out film professor at a struggling liberal arts college, and his wife Julia (Emily Keyishian), a concert cellist recovering in an expensive mental health clinic following a public meltdown. Peter’s career and marriage are both on the line as he undertakes a questionable research project for an occultist patron to buttress the school’s funding. When a mishap with a supernatural elixir leads to him accidentally becoming a werewolf, Peter must learn to embrace the change to thwart his patron’s evil intentions, save the college, and perhaps even his marriage.
Director: Daedalus Howell, Producer: Kary Hess (US 2024) 85 min.
